Michelle Bradley and Velma Davidson founded Positive Changes, Inc. in 2005 with the primary function of making a positive impact in the live of individuals and their families that are faced with the lifetime challenges of disability. We achieve this by acting as a resource and providing services that enable them to remain in their home and an active part of their community if they choose to. Positive Changes strives to break the barriers of disability by assisting with home modifications, respite care, peer counseling, family support services, and education and /or assistance in obtaining services available to the client and family.
Michelle Bradley and Velma Davidson together bring over 40 years of experience to Positive Changes. This level of experience makes Positive Changes, Inc. a unique organization filled with care and compassion, along with the desire to see individuals and the families affected by disability thrive and maintain the life they are accustomed to.
Ms. Bradley has been a Registered Nurse for 20 years, with 16 years of that being in Home Health Care and working primarily with severely disabled individuals ranging in ages from infants to older adults. She has seen first hand the difficulties encountered not only by the individual but the family and support system also.
Ms. Davidson has first hand knowledge of the effects of disability on the family. Her son and only child, Rick, became a ventilator dependant quadriplegic at the young age of 21 years old. He continues to live in the home with her with 24- hour attendant care. Her husband of 40+ years suffered a head injury in April 2002 and due to situations at that time, they were forced to place him in a nursing facility. He passed away in February 2005 due to complications. Ms. Davidson brings her experience of these situations to the organization in hopes of helping other families “survive” the crisis that disability brings.
During a Coast-to-Coast trip for Spinal Cord Injury Awareness in June 2005, Michelle Bradley and Rick Davidson, Velma’s son, came up with the “dream” of Positive Changes, Inc.. With the help of MANY people, the trip was a huge success and not only did they achieve the goal they had set, but they saw the need nationwide for an organization like Positive Changes. Later that year, Positive Changes, Inc. became a reality and has grown to the organization it is today.
